In EssenceはDru, Smooth, Pops, Touch, Queの5人からなるカナダはトロント出身のヴォーカルグループです｡ 確かDruとPopsがソロアルバムを出してますよね｡
この方達 ステレオ片手にNew Yorkに行き､Funkmaster Flexの前でパフォームして一気に契約を勝ち取ったそうです｡ New YorkとTorontoを行き来し､このアルバムを作るまでに10年も掛かったそうです｡
Mobb Deep"Quiet Storm"ネタのオケにOran Juice Jonesの"Rain"を口ずさむ糞カッコ良い反則曲"You Will Never Know"がHot 97にピックアップされ､更にはFunkmaster FlexのMix Tapeに収録されたりして､クラブバンガーとして有名みたい｡ でも僕はクラブってのにもう何年も行ってないので知りませんでした｡
In Essenceの苦労して作られた､このなんだかインディージョーンズみたいなジャケのデビューアルバム メチャお気に入りです｡　ほとんどの曲がアップ｡ この頃(今もですが)似たような美メロ曲ばっかりで飽き飽きしてたところガチンときました｡ はい
まず小手調べと言わんばかりにハーモニーを聴かせる#2,前述の#3, 奇天烈な民族調が癖になる#5, ロック入り具合がかっこいい#6...等々一気に聴かせてくれます｡ #14, #15の最後の2曲はスロウ｡ アップがいけるグループはやっぱりスロウもいけますね｡ 勢いもあるし､かっこいい曲だらけの素晴らしいアルバムだと思います｡
ただメジャー配給なのに当時から日本では流通が少ないのが残念です｡
